Time Built Code:
Located above the "ST" letters. Indicates the week of the month the car was made
and which week the car was assembled. (09A = September, 1st week)
|
Model Year:
Located to the right of the "ST" letters. Indicates the model year.
|
Division Series:
Located to the right of the Model Year digits. Indicates the division, model, series, and body style. This number matches the first five digits of the V.I.N. on all 1967-71 models. (22367 = Pontiac (2), Firebird (23), Convertible (67) or Coupe (37)).
Note: The Firebird designation (23) on the body tag could be 24 (Std. Interior) or 26 (Cus. Interior) on the 1967-68 which indicated "Custom Trim Option #554". Then, this body tag designation will not match the VIN which will still be 23.
|
Assembly Plant Code:
Located to the right of the Division Series digits. Indicates which plant the car
was manufactured (LOR = Lordstown, Ohio).
|
Consecutive Build Number:
Located to the right of the Assembly Plant Code. It is the consecutive body build number and indicates the sequence the car came off the assembly line. This number will not match the actual sequential VIN number.
|
Paint Code:
Located below the Assembly Plant Code. The 2 letter code indicates the body color, or
which upper and lower colors were used on a 2-tone paint option, or what color an optional
stripe, convertible top, or vinyl top was ordered. (T = Montego Cream lower, Turquoise top)
(NOTE: Custom Factory Paint is indicated by "2", "1", "4", "PRIMER", blank, '----', 'SPEC', or 'special.' The special order Pontiac Colors were Verdoro Green (usually used "Q"), Mayfair Maize (usually used "Y"), Coronado Gold (sales code 867-97904), Copper Blaze (867-98105), Sierra Red (867-97592), Silver Turquoise (867-99079), and Blue Charcoal (867-97211). The data plate for the Paint Code may have been marked "2" for Pontiac special order colors, "1" (or Blank) for non-Pontiac colors, and "4" (or "PRIMER) for primer-only finish.)
|
Trim Code:
Located to the left of the Paint Code. The 3 digit code indicates the color the interior is
and what style and material the seat was made from. (253 = Black Vinyl)
Next to this is a one letter code indicating seat style (Z = Bucket Seats without headrests, Y = Bucket Seats with headrests, H = Standard Bench Seat)
|
Miscellaneous Codes:
There are sometimes codes on the body tag that most tags do not have on them. Some of the information for these codes can be found on the Code Information FAQs page. This page includes the breakdown for the Five Group Accessory Code System used on the 1967 Firebird body tag. Some of the codes are still being researched since few factory records have turned up to solve the mysteries.
