Jump to new posts Re: 69 high volume water pump - which one to choose? by Claus Moeller @ Today at 01:43 AM

The welded-on plate will cause less cavitatition, and improve cooling.. I think on chevy pumps, it's as much as 20 or 30 F cooler with closing plate vs. stock pumps..

I have one out in my garage but need to check and see which side it is for. I broke up the set and sold one side last year but just can't remember which side, so I need to take a look. Bill Edmunds EarlyBrds@aol.com

The quadrajet is still your best bet. Do the cam at the same time as the intake if you're worried about it. Go mild on the cam though. Unless you've got a high stall converter or very low rear end gears, the cam mentioned above is too much for you

I was going for the lack of friction and smoother idle with the rollers. I also wanted to verify that a roller cam could be used in a 68 400 block.

Your cam and heads will ultimately limit your performance no matter whether you bolt on a 650 cfm or an 1100 cfm carb. The QJ was designed to change delivery according to the engine's needs. You may have to swap jets if you don't swap the cam.

I have a media blasted and freshly painted 1969 intake, and a couple of rebuilt numbers carbs. If you're not interested in a numbers matching carb, good rebuilt QJets can be bought through NAPA, other auto parts stores, or 69Firebirdman. Just watch

I did the same thing 7 or 8 years ago. The quadrajet will work just fine with the existing heads and cam. A few years later I switched to big valve heads (#16) and a slightly hotter cam and it made a big difference. The power and the throttle resp

i was going to do that. but (during my reserch) i found out that the increase in performance was small given the large cost. 68 400 numbers matching h.o. 4 spd to go.

you have 2bbl heads. the switch won't effect the compression. keeping the original cam setup won't kill it; but, changing the cam will help the increase power given by the carb set up. i'd run a ra3 cam its more aggressive but still stock. it

Gonna be switching from stock 2 Barrel intake and carb to Pontiac intake (out of a 70' 400 block) and a quadrajet 750cfm. Can I still use the stock cam and valvetrain? Also how will this affect the Compression if at all. They are #47 heads, I think
