The welded-on plate will cause less cavitatition, and improve cooling.. I think on chevy pumps, it's as much as 20 or 30 F cooler with closing plate vs. stock pumps..

The quadrajet is still your best bet. Do the cam at the same time as the intake if you're worried about it. Go mild on the cam though. Unless you've got a high stall converter or very low rear end gears, the cam mentioned above is too much for you

You can pick up the repro rally gauge cluster for far less than that, but the tach would not be there.....
